China New Pictures Film

The New Pictures Film Co.LTD was founded in 1997 as a private film production and distribution company. Its growth has coincided with the transition of China film industry from a government-funded, planned industry, towards a privately invested and market-oriented business sector. The commercialization of China's film industry has not only attracted an ever-increasing influx of overseas investment, but also fundamentally changed the production pattern and artistic concepts of Chinese films.

With Zhang Yimou as its executive artistic director, the New Pictures Film Company is one of the most creative, most artistically and commercially competitive players in China film market. All of the nine films produced over the past thirteen years by the company have turned out to be box-office hits and international film festival favorites. Keep Cool, Not One Less, The Road Home, Happy Time and Hero are all directed by Zhang Yimou. Not One Less garnered such honors as the Golden Lion at the 1999 Venice International Film Festival, the Best Film for children and film by the Catholic Film Critics, the Best Film by UNESCO, the Best Film by Italian Film Magazine, the Best Film of Youth and Dream and an International Film Nomination at the 1999 Europe Film Festival. The Road Home won the Silver Bear at the 50th Annual Berlin International Film Festival in 2000. Hero has so far won the New Initiative Award at the 53rd Annual Berlin International Film Festival, nomination for the Best Foreign Film for the 60th Annual Golden Globe Awards, and nomination as the Best Foreign Language Film for the 75th Annual Academy Awards. 　　

We are so proud that all of our productions have been commercially profitable, even though the financial underpinnings of the film industry in the country have been extremely shaky. Every time one of our new films hits the market, it has aroused heated discussion and debate among viewers and critics. In the days following Hero's premier it was estimated that everyday 200,000 viewers from around the china exchanged opinions throughout the Internet. Our films often become such a cultural phenomena that they linger long in the public memory.

　　世界级电影大师张艺谋担任艺术总监的新画面影业，无疑是当今中国大陆最具商业竞争力，最有朝气的民营电影生产与发行企业。新画面影业十三年来拍摄的每一部作品都既拥有广泛的国际声誉又具有强烈的市场号召力。《有话好好说》，《一个也不能少》，《我的父亲母亲》，《幸福时光》，《英雄》无一不叫好叫座，蜚声中外。《一个也不能少》获得1999年意大利威尼斯国际电影节金狮奖，天主教影评人、儿童与电影最佳影片奖；联合国教科文组织最佳影片大奖；意大利电影杂志最佳影片奖“青年与梦想”最佳影片奖，1999年度欧洲电影节影评国际提名。《我的父亲母亲》获得2000年第50届柏林电影节评委团大奖银熊奖。武侠巨片《英雄》则获得2003年第53届国际电影节特别创新奖；美国第60届金球奖最佳外语片提名；以及第75届奥斯卡最佳外语片提名。

　　更令我们骄傲的是，在中国电影市场普遍萧条的几年，新画面品的影片却都具有良好的社会价值和经济价值。第一部新余布设，都吸引了广泛社会人群的关注。新画面影业的作品影响之大，往往最终形成了一种文化现象长久地留在观众记忆里。
